Report on the Friends of the Nickey Line Meeting 10th May 2018

Well attended with around 40 people at the Park Hall, membership now 284 households.

The Chairman Dave Abernethy gave a comprehensive account of the work to control the trees and hedgerows and general maintenance and improvement works, This year in co-operation with the CMS of Herts County Council opened up the canopy near Five Ways giving views of the Ver valley and encouraging wild flowers and butterflies from neighbouring fields,.

They have good working relationships with St Albans and Dacorum councils to clear fallen trees. and repair vandalism SADC also cleared back the vegetation on the Luton Road bridge to help prevent root damage. The Redbourn Road crossing is a major traffic issue, the bollards in the car park widened to allow easier car parking access, but still deter fly tipping. A long term project to resurface the line, would require substantial funding.
I was very impressed by their organisation and achievement with little funding!
They have just set up a Facebook group - please join them and show our support!
