Annual Awards Summary

What are the Annual Awards?

Each year we run our Annual Awards schemes based on distances run and WAVA based performances. What we hope we have achieved is to offer a set of awards which are accessible to a wide range of runners but still provide a challenge - giving you all something to focus on in your running. We feel this sends a positive message to our members and hopefully encourage you to go out and test yourself against your fellow athletes and your previous achievements.

Please take the time to read carefully what is needed for each one (it may have changed!) and make sure you put some dates in your diary asap.

There are three different award schemes and you will be able to claim one award from each if you wish.

Details on how and when to claim will be included in the detailed description of each one, and here on the Annual Awards Claim Form.

1. The Arrows Rocket Award For the speedy ones! 1 mile, 5k, 5 miles. 75% WAVA - Virtual events now accepted!

2. Club Performance Awards (WAVA based Standards Performance Awards from 'Club' (55%) to 'Platinum' (80%)) Based on increasing WAVA scores , distances and number of events.

3. Distance Challenges Distance collectors Awards. Choose one from the The Fun 500 or one of the longer 'Annual Totals' awards, a traditional 'Full House', or the demanding  'Ultra Level' .

If you are not sure that what you are doing or planning to do will qualify, please get in touch sooner rather than later.

We hate saying 'no' to people late in December!

Not sure what a WAVA score is or how to calculate it? See this calculator.

Club Performance Awards

WAVA Performance Awards Scheme requirements

We have renamed 'Club Standards' as 'Performance Standards' keeping the traditional 'Gold', 'Silver' 'Bronze' etc as in pre-Covid times. These awards will work in the familiar way with slightly different qualifying requirements for the 'basket' of events and different WAVA scores determining which Award you can claim.

We will be retaining the facility to submit virtual races, so long as the results are published so that we can verify your results, most race events should be admissible, if if events need to go virtual again to comply with Government or EA restrictions.

N.B. The Full House is now part of the 'Distance Challenges' - see the Distance Challenges

Distance Challenges

Distance Challenges

These work in a similar way to the Performance Level Awards (except for the annual totals) but have different qualifying requirements AND you are able to submit  physical or virtual races, so long as the results are published, so that we can verify your results, where applicable.

Distance Challenges are not WAVA based so all that is required is that the organisers publish the results so that we can verify a finish in each of your events.

N.b. Event details are required for the Full House and the Ultra-Level awards - Strava activities are not acceptable. You may only include a 'leg' of a relay race if your name, time and distance are published, not just the team result.
For the Annual Totals awards your Strava profile URL IS acceptable, event details are not required. A screenshot of your annual running total may be required from Strava, Garmin Connect etc.

You may claim just one of the awards described in this article for the year.

The Arrows Rocket Award

Are you fast enough?

This award was introduced in 2018 as a trial and has been offered ever since, retaining a few alterations introduced during the pandemic. Basically we've made virtual races admissible, hopefully these changes will make it possible to get the qualifying times needed, whilst still making it a real challenge to hit the required WAVA scores.

You will need to run 3 different short distances but each one at a high WAVA to qualify.

If you are more into speed than long distances this could be for you...

The Fun 500

The Fun 500!

This new(ish), Annual Totals award which was introduced in 2021 is not event based. You may claim this as soon as you hit 500 running miles for the year, no matter how you got there, all runs count.

Obviously, this is largely based on trust so please be honest! Please keep track of where all your runs are stored as we will want to check it. Remember that you can claim this award as well as a Rocket Award and your chosen Club Performance Standard Award  . So - if its maybe only June and you have already done 500 miles perhaps you could hit 1000 or claim a full house by the end of the year?
