Four Arrows at the inaugural Bedford Twilight 10K this afternoon - three running (myself, Geraldine Carrie, and Sharon Neely) plus Arrows support crew Julie Horrocks whom reluctantly decided not to run whilst nursing an injury (very #sensible).
The course is multi-terrain with a mixture of gravel path, road and grass, and numerous foot bridges which add some bounce, but all in all a good flat 10K with a few interesting things along the way.
As part of a weekend of running, the Twilight 10k will be followed tomorrow with the Bedford Half Marathon. The race village was well stocked today with a decent selection of food and drinks stalls - wood fired pizza was a winner for me (pre and post race ).
Official Event Parking was limited to 400 spaces, so we arrived early to ensure we could get a space with 2000+ runners expected. Many more people were also there to support, and the official parking was a good 20 minutes walk from the event village, so having extra time to play with was a bonus. Parking cost £2 and cash only.
For anyone doing the half tomorrow...
⚠️ Signage from the car park wasn’t brilliant, so check your directions.
⚠️ If the half route is the same in places as the 10k today, watch out for the rough ground on the grass sections - some ankle twisters out there.
⚠️ Route - narrow in places, may get congested, especially at the start
✅ Food - good selection!
✅ Craft beer and cider!
✅ Loos - plenty and quite clean (today anyway)!
✅ Bag drop - quick, efficient
✅ Entertainment - good live music and nice atmosphere before and after the race
✅ Nice bling and finishers Tshirt
Finally, I lost my sunglasses when I tossed them at Julie at around mile 4 - not realising I’d given her my hat as well as the glasses, they were mislaid. But... an honest person found them and handed them into the race HQ, and I got them back in one piece ❤️
All in all, a thumbs up for this event.
