Harpenden Arrows hosts its first major race

Arrows in the news again! Another great story in the Herts Ad this week celebrating our first race!

Harpenden Arrows Running Club hosted the first major race event in its 10-year history this week, marking a big step forward in the club’s development.

A total of 440 runners from 14 clubs across Hertfordshire gathered at Harpenden Rugby Club for the opening round for Divisions 2 & 3 in the 2019 Scott’s Travel Midweek Road Race League series.

Starting and finishing at the Rugby Club, the largely rural 10km course skirted Harpenden Golf Club and went through West Common before going down Beesonend Lane, and then along and back up to the finish via Hammondsend Wood.

Over 80 Harpenden Arrows members were involved in supporting the event in roles ranging from organising and signposting the route, managing car parking, marshalling the event, and catering for all the runners afterwards.

Loch Ness Marathon 2018

Arrows on Tour at Inverness
By Stephen McKee

Planes, trains and automobiles were in action getting 6 Arrows to Inverness for the Loch Ness Marathon and 10k. Team McKee, Team Russell and Lyndon arrived on Friday in time for parkrun on Saturday taking advantage of the slightly later start for an extra 30 minutes lie-in. Rhona marshalled while the rest of us jogged round a flat, grassy 2.5 lap course which was adjusted slightly due to the Expo being set-up on part of the course. Nice run but the flat terrain provided a false sense of security ahead of the Sunday routes. A brief visit to a small, compact but well stocked Expo which left David a few pounds lighter; the 20% discount on garmin products being too tempting for a Scotsman. A pleasant meal Chez McKee followed in the early evening providing sufficient carbs to get us through the next day.
