Bedford Twilight 10k

Aly Northedge - 1st Sept 2018

Four Arrows at the inaugural Bedford Twilight 10K this afternoon - three running (myself, Geraldine Carrie, and Sharon Neely) plus Arrows support crew  Julie Horrocks whom reluctantly decided not to run whilst nursing an injury (very #sensible).

The course is multi-terrain with a mixture of gravel path, road and grass, and numerous foot bridges which add some bounce, but all in all a good flat 10K with a few interesting things along the way.

As part of a weekend of running, the Twilight 10k will be followed tomorrow with the Bedford Half Marathon. The race village was well stocked today with a decent selection of food and drinks stalls - wood fired pizza was a winner for me (pre and post race  ).

Wheathampstead 10k and Liverpool Marathon

Wheathampstead 10k and Liverpool Marathon

Harpenden Arrows were strongly represented at the Wheathampstead 10k and Liverpool Marathon events at the weekend.

A contingent of 28 Arrows runners tackled the route between Wheathampstead and Brocket Hall in glorious sunshine, led home by Justin Busby in 38 minutes 33 seconds for eighth place.

Busby, who has been training for the Wainwright coast-to-coast run, said: “I wasn’t really sure if it’d go okay as I haven’t done much shorter-distance stuff recently.” The second Arrow home was Ammon Piepgrass in 40:16 followed by James Izzard in 40:35.

Meanwhile, a team of Arrows made the trip to Liverpool for marathon, half and 5k events.

Anita White finished the marathon in 3:58, Louisa Thomson 4:30, Stephen McKee 4:52, Annette Alleyne 4:54 and Lauren Amond 5:26.

Thunder Run 2018

July 2018

TWENTY FIVE members of the Harpenden Arrows running club tested their limits this weekend and competed against teams from around the country at the annual 24 Hour Conti Thunder Run.

The team of various abilities camped with their families while taking part in the event.  Some ran ‘solo’ to attempt to run further than they ever have before, and others ran as part of a team to complete as many laps of the 10 kilometre course as possible in 24 hours.

Two teams of five and one team of eight completed in a field of 2,000 runners.  All participants completed at least one lap of the course, with four pushing their limits to run an incredible 100km each.
