Arrows Running News and June Schedule

June News and Schedule

May certainly had a lot going beyond our first MWRRL, Wheato 10k and the parkrun tourism: I was told of adventures longer and further afield with Patrick McGuiness who did the Camino trail 1009k over 26 days. Ammon and Terry did the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100k (22 hours, 6,500m climb), and Mark Hammond walked the St Columbus Way (st Andrews to Iona, 351k). Lyndon did the Two Oceans ultra (56km) and The Hobbit (90k over 2 days). Chas and Dave did the beer marathon in fancy dress as Roman Centurions. I'm sure that there is more... sorry to have missed them out.

June is also going to be a busy month..... We've got our hosting of the MWRRL race for Div III clubs on the 6th, 2 more races on the 15th and 29th, we're moving the speed sessions to KWS to the grass track - returning to Stockwood in September, the Club 5k and several local events including the Oval Run on the 24th June. May's parkrun at Houghton Hall was well attended and Julie has proposed the 17th of June at Bury Field. There is also potential talk of seeing if we can join the street-O event in Harpenden on 13th June.

Keep an eye on further notices on Facebook or get in touch.

Mid-Week Road Race League - a last call for help

The club has been in the Sunday League and MWRRL for over 12 years and managed to host a race just once before. We've got the chance to give something back and will be hosting on the 6th of June at the Rugby Club.

We've had a number of volunteers - but are still short of a few for marshalling the runners out of the rugby club and through West Common. Can you help? As you can imagine, there are lots of twists and turns in West Common and need people - so not solely relying on the signs that we're going to be putting up. Thanks to everyone already volunteering and there are some opportunities to help and run as help will be needed before and after the race.

Not keen to volunteer? No harm, please come and RUN! We'd love to see a full team and a sea of red Arrows in any photos.

Please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and it will get through to me. Steve who's doing a great job, will mark up the course and be your Marshall Director on the day. Alternatively, please join the WhatsApp group.

It's never too late, so if you can do on the night, please turn up from 7 pm for the Marshall briefing. If you want to help with car parking - it's 6 pm.

Race Instructions can be found at: MWRRL Div III Race 2 Harpenden Instructions FINAL.pdf

Look forward to seeing you!

Arrows Running News and May Schedule

May News and Schedule

Well done to all for having done what might be their 'A' race for this year (so far) at London, Manchester, Milton Keynes or anywhere else we've forgotten to mention! Lots of great efforts and PBs.

Well done to everyone who also turned up to Jersey Farm and the Club 5k - it was nice to see so many of us out and enjoying the joy of running and being together.

Thank you also for renewing. We've got around 175 members so far and there are normally quite a number who will renew late or newly join through the year. Hoping that you'll get what you want from us during 2023-24 and you'll let us know if you don't - with ideas for how to improve/change things.

What's going on:

  1. Track nights - Continuing into May at Stockwood Park for May - we may move to KWS for June / July - tbc.

  2. Run Technique - Best to have a max of 6 in a group for the full experience, we're trying to see if we can offer a larger group "sample" of the more 1:1 approach.

  3. Change to run times - Still at 7:30 and the last couple of Club 5k have been 30 mins earlier. We might look to see if we can do the same for weekday runs.

  4. Social - We've had quite a few impromptu drop-in sessions at the Inn on the Green for post-run celebrations. Nothing planned so far in May - but there will be more than enough time to do a pub visit post the May Club 5k if we don't think of anything else. Could be a potential drink after the Wheato 10k the weekend before.

  5. Arrows hosting the MWRRL - We will be hosting on the 6th of June out of the Rugby club - just as we did in 2019. There will be separate communications about this, however, please do join our WhatsApp group if you would want to be involved to support the race. We're going to try and max the number of potential runners - but we do need anything up to 30 people to cover various roles and we'll also be looking for contributions for catering. The WhatsApp group is here.

May you run in May injury free and with a smile on your face as Spring springs.

Arrows Running News and April Schedule

April News and Schedule

Welcome to April, and with it the start of the spring marathon/race season is upon us. Starting with Sandy 10 and Brighton Marathon, well done to those who were out last weekend. To those racing later this month, may your preparation pay off and your taper be injury free.

After the wettest month in 40 years, we hope that April will be kind to you with cool and dry (actually, is there such a thing as?) perfect running weather for all your running, chatty, social or otherwise.

It's also the start of a new club and England Athletics membership year. Although we allow a short grace period, subscription fees are now due if you wish to remain an active member of the club's runs and related activities. If you would like to renew or rejoin please check your email for a renewal email or contact Lyndon at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Towards the middle of this month, we will update our 'active members' list and that may see you missing out on information or events if you haven't renewed.

We hope you’ve enjoyed running with fellow Arrows in March, a quick update on some of the March announcements:

  1. Track nights - Have been well attended. There are more sessions planned in April. Details below.

  2. Run Technique - More news to come, it's still a bit too cold at the moment.

  3. Change to run times - Keep an eye out for a poll to be sent out soon(-ish). Track sessions and the Club 5k in March were at 7 pm, please ensure you arrive in time for sessions to start at the advertised times.

  4. Social - Please keep an eye out for post-race socials, typically at the Inn on the Green and advertised on FB. Last month's post-5k social with Roger's prop-assisted recount of his epic Spine Race and Jen's World Marathon Majors completion in Tokyo were fantastic and well received.

On March 5th the awards were handed out at a celebratory social event, we may need more space next time, it was rather cosy. Thank you all for attending, collecting your rewards and celebrating all your 2022 achievements. Please remember the club league, two races have been run and the current standing is:
